Message echo
A copy of a message sent from the WhatsApp Business App, delivered to the API so a platform running Coexistence can show it alongside API-sent messages.
One term from the WhatsApp Business Platform glossary. Last updated 2026-07-25.
Under Coexistence, a team may reply from the WhatsApp Business App on a phone while the same number also runs through the API. Echoes are how the platform learns about those app-sent replies and keeps one accurate conversation history.
Handling echoes correctly requires de-duplication, because a message sent through the API can also echo back. A platform that does not de-duplicate shows every outbound message twice in Coexistence mode.
