How does a WhatsApp click-to-chat link work?
WhatsApp's click-to-chat format is https://wa.me/<number>, with the complete number in international format and no plus sign or punctuation. Add ?text= followed by URL-encoded text to pre-fill the message field. Opening a link starts a chat; it does not automatically send the message.
For example, an Indian mobile number written as +91 98765 43210 becomes https://wa.me/919876543210. To include “Hello there”, the link adds ?text=Hello%20there. See WhatsApp's official click-to-chat instructions for the format and requirements.
Where can I use the link or QR code?
- Put the link on a website contact button, business profile, email signature or social bio.
- Print the QR code on a menu, counter card, brochure or event sign so people can scan it.
- Use a short, relevant pre-filled message such as “I have a question about my order” to give the team context.
A link and QR code start individual conversations. If your team needs a shared WhatsApp inbox, or you plan opt-in WhatsApp campaigns, those are separate Business Platform workflows.

What number format should I enter?
Enter the complete international number with its country code. For an Indian number, use 91 followed by the 10-digit mobile number. The wa.me link contains digits only, without a plus sign, spaces, brackets, dashes or a leading international-dialling zero.
Can I add a message to my WhatsApp link?
Yes. Add optional text and the tool URL-encodes it in the wa.me link. WhatsApp opens the chat with that text pre-filled; the visitor still chooses whether to send it.
Does the QR code open the same chat?
Yes. The downloadable SVG QR code encodes exactly the generated wa.me link, including any pre-filled message. Test it by scanning before printing it on a poster, menu or business card.
Do I need a WhatsApp Business API account to make a link?
No. WhatsApp's click-to-chat feature only needs a full international phone number with an active WhatsApp account. A Business Platform account is for workflows such as shared inboxes and campaigns.
Does BotPulsar receive my phone number or message?
No. This tool creates the link and QR code in your browser. The form does not send the phone number or message to BotPulsar. Opening the link takes you to WhatsApp.
