Phone Number ID

The numeric identifier Meta assigns to each phone number registered on a WhatsApp Business Account. API calls send messages from a Phone Number ID, not from the human-readable number itself.

One term from the WhatsApp Business Platform glossary. Last updated 2026-07-25.

Every number added to a WABA gets its own Phone Number ID. When a platform sends a message, it posts to an endpoint scoped to that ID — which is how one workspace can run several numbers with separate queues, templates and analytics without messages crossing between them.

The ID is stable for the life of the registration. If a number is deregistered and re-added, it receives a new Phone Number ID, which is why platform integrations keyed to the old ID have to be re-pointed after a migration.
