Template footer
The optional bottom line of a WhatsApp template, rendered in smaller grey text. It cannot contain variables and is commonly used for opt-out instructions or a brand sign-off.
One term from the WhatsApp Business Platform glossary. Last updated 2026-07-25.
The footer is a single short line with no variable support, rendered smaller and greyer than the body. Because it is fixed text, it is the natural place for anything that should appear on every send of that template.
For marketing templates the most valuable use is opt-out instruction. Making it obvious how to stop receiving messages reduces block and report rates, which is the mechanism that actually protects a number's quality rating.

- Template body
- The main text of a WhatsApp template and the only required section. It carries the message content and any variables that get filled in per recipient at send time.
- Opt-out
- A customer's withdrawal of permission to be messaged. Honouring it promptly is both a WhatsApp policy requirement and the most direct way to protect a number's quality rating.
- Quality rating
- The health score Meta assigns each WhatsApp phone number, derived from how recipients react to its messages. Blocks and reports push it down, and a low rating restricts the number's messaging limit.
