Audit log

An append-only record of who did what inside a platform and when. It cannot be edited after the fact, which is what makes it usable as evidence.

One term from the WhatsApp Business Platform glossary. Last updated 2026-07-25.

An audit log records administrative and data-access actions: who exported contacts, who changed a permission, who connected or disconnected a channel. Append-only means entries cannot be quietly rewritten later.

For regulated buyers this is a procurement requirement rather than a nice-to-have, because incident investigation and data-protection compliance both depend on being able to reconstruct what happened.

Related terms

RBAC
Role-based access control — granting permissions by job role rather than individually, so an agent, a manager and an owner see different parts of a platform.
Data retention
The policy defining how long a business keeps message and contact data before deleting it. Retention limits reduce both regulatory exposure and breach impact.
DSAR
A data subject access request — a person asking a business what personal data it holds about them, and in many cases asking for it to be corrected or deleted.
