Template header
The optional top section of a WhatsApp template. It can hold a short line of text or a single media item — an image, video, document or location.

A header is limited to one type: text or media, never both. A text header is a single short line and can carry at most one variable. A media header carries an image, video, document or location, and the actual file is supplied at send time against a sample provided at submission.
Media headers materially lift engagement on marketing templates — a product image in the header does more for a promotional message than the same image described in body text. They also raise the cost of getting the template wrong, since the media sample is reviewed alongside the copy.

- Template body
- The main text of a WhatsApp template and the only required section. It carries the message content and any variables that get filled in per recipient at send time.
- Template message
- A pre-approved message format required to contact a customer outside the 24-hour customer service window. Meta categorises templates as Marketing, Utility or Authentication, and charges a different rate for each.
- Media ID
- The identifier returned when a file is uploaded to WhatsApp. Messages reference the Media ID rather than re-uploading the file for every recipient.
