Template buttons

Tappable actions attached to a WhatsApp template. They come in two families: quick replies that send a preset response, and call-to-action buttons that open a URL or dial a number.

One term from the WhatsApp Business Platform glossary. Last updated 2026-07-25.

Quick reply buttons send a fixed text response back into the conversation when tapped, which makes them the cleanest way to branch an automation without asking the customer to type. Call-to-action buttons open a URL or start a phone call and produce no inbound message.

URL buttons support a variable in the path, so one approved template can link each recipient to their own order or booking. Authentication templates get a third type — a copy-code or one-tap autofill button — that is unavailable elsewhere.

The main text of a WhatsApp template and the only required section. It carries the message content and any variables that get filled in per recipient at send time.
Interactive message
A WhatsApp message type that renders tappable UI inside the chat — reply buttons, selectable lists, or product cards — instead of plain text the customer has to answer manually.
Authentication template
A WhatsApp template category reserved for one-time passcodes and login verification. Content is tightly constrained — the message carries the code and nothing promotional.
